Atlanta is the capital and the most populous city of Georgia and the core city of the ninth most populous metropolitan area in the United States. The metropolitan area population is approaching five and one half million people. Among America’s largest cities, Atlanta has the highest growth rate. Atlanta has in recent years undergone a transition from a city of regional commerce to a city of international influence. Atlanta hosted the 1996 Summer Olympic Games.
Atlanta has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild to chilly winters. July highs average 90 °F (32 °C) or above, and lows average 67 °F (19 °C). Infrequently, temperatures can even exceed 100 °F (38 °C). The highest temperature recorded in the city is 105 °F (41 °C), reached in July, 1980. January is the coldest month, with an average high of 50 °F (10 °C), and low of 29 °F (−2 °C). The coldest temperature ever recorded was −9 °F (−23 °C) in February, 1899.
In this relatively humid climate, mold and mildew is an issue on almost every exterior surface (wood trim such as window and door casings, soffit and fascia; gutters and downspouts, and siding) and must be dealt with prior to painting. Most of the dingy or discolored appearance on older Atlanta painting jobs are mold and mildew growing on the paint. Prior to painting, our Atlanta painters both clean the surface and treat the existing mold and mildew by pressure washing with some type of mildewcide. This helps prevent the existing mold and mildew from growing through the new paint.
Atlanta Interior - Exterior Painting
Wood repairs are a very common part of Atlanta exterior painting. Many homes in this area have some rotten wood at window or door trim, soffit or fascia (eaves), or siding. As part of exterior painting, we routinely replace rotten window sills, moldings around windows and doors, wood trim around the eaves (soffit and fascia), and siding. Many homes in the Atlanta area have some type of Masonite siding and we take the approach of replacing this on an as needed basis with Hardiplank siding. Siding replaced can be anything from a few boards to the entire side of a home.
They recently moved into the home and want to make it fit their personal tastes. This may be taking the builder paint job in a new home and adding a variety of color, or changing the previous owners tastes to better reflect their own.
They are putting the home on the market and are making some changes to make the home more marketable such as toning down some colors or removing wallpaper and converting it to paint.
They plan to stay in the home long-term and are making some changes to update the look such as removing wallpaper and converting to paint or simply updating the color scheme.
Repairs are needed to walls or ceilings due to cracks, stains, nailpops, or holes in the drywall. At Kimberly Painting we are experts at making these repairs and frequently complete this type of work along with interior painting.
Many homes 10 years old and older in Atlanta have some wallpaper and for whatever reason wallpaper has fallen out of favor. As mentioned above, many people are removing wallpaper and converting those walls to paint. Our Atlanta painting contractors are very experienced with this aspect of Atlanta interior painting. The process to make this conversion is essentially a three step process. First, we remove the wallpaper which to a greater or lesser degree tears up the drywall. Second, our Atlanta painters patch the walls with compound, let them dry, and then sand them smooth. Finally, our Atlanta painting contractors apply primer and finish paint and the result is a nice, smooth painted wall.
